Vote By Mail
I was asked the following question below by one of my doctors who is 70 years old and still practicing medicine part time at the VA Medical Center, Memphis.
First, let me just state how much I admire and respect this doctor still practicing medicine at 70 years of age.
The question is this; do I support mail in voting versus physically traveling to ones voting site and voting. At first I was still kind of in the old school mode of actually traveling to ones voting site and voting.
The more we discussed this question, I came to realize several things.
1. As my doctor stated, his wife will not travel to a voting site to physically vote. What she will do is vote by mail.
2. It is now my strong belief that more American Citizens, and yes I will be a little selfish here since I am a Republican Candidate for the United States Senate in Tennessee; that more registered voters will vote by mail instead of showing up at their voting site to vote. This is especially true given the current situation of the United States and the World due to COVID-19.
3. If someone wants to commit fraud in voting, they are going to commit fraud. And I can hear many of you saying right now, this is why voters should be verified at ones voting site to ensure they commit no fraud. No matter how one votes, either onsite at their voting location or by mail, each registered voter will be verified that they are registered and legal to vote.
4. In the case of the elderly and handicapped, voting by mail will dramatically ease the burden of the elderly and handicapped, and will also eliminate the volunteer from the trouble (I realize it is no trouble for such volunteers) to schedule times of picking up the elderly and handicapped, transporting them to their voting sites, then transporting them back to their homes or places of where they live. This is also safer for the elderly and handicapped and also the volunteers, especially and once again due to COVID-19.
5. Instead, there could be volunteers at each elderly living location to assist the elderly in the process of voting. The volunteer helps with the voting process. The volunteer never tells an elder how to vote or who to vote for.
6. Pre-voting process would include a regular visit by the County Election Commission representative to visit each elderly home location and at the least make known to the elderly home personnel who is running, what political party a candidate is running under, what if any information a candidate desires to be known about them and why they are seeking such political office; and leave documentation about each candidate, the voting dates, etc., at each senior citizen home for any senior to review. This way every elderly person who otherwise would not vote due to not wanting to travel physically to their voting site, will have every opportunity to vote for the candidate they trust. Then the County Election Commission personnel would make one last visit to such elderly homes to appraise each elderly person the outcome of each election. Each county election commission in Every State should assist every elder citizen the opportunity to vote for who they choose. Once the vote is completed, the county election commission representative should place each voters ballet in a locked safe. Then the chairperson of each county election commission will be the only one to have a key to unlock the safe and enter the elder citizens vote into the election system. This will only be done with at least two witnesses with a document they sign verifing the elder citizens vote is entered without fraud.
7. Bottom line, more American Citizens would vote by mail instead of the same American Citizen not voting in person, especially due to COVID-19.
8. Last but in no way the least: America and the World are dealing with COVID-19. Voting by mail would eliminate any possible contamination from people, American Registered Voting Citizens, if voting by mail is the standard avenue to vote.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support, especially your prayers, and for reading this post.
God Bless each of you and your families in Christ's Name.
